Our History

The Hampton Roads Counselors Association is the largest of the 15 chapters of the Virginia Counselors Association (VCA). HRCA is comprised of professional counselors in a variety of settings ranging from public schools to private practice. Since 1950, HRCA has provided counselors in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, and Chesapeake with opportunities for professional growth, networking, and idea sharing.

Our Mission

Hampton Roads Counselors Association aims to work as a collective body to unite, support and help develop competent professionals in the school counseling and mental health field throughout Hampton Roads. We aim to address mental health issues, including those impacted by social and political injustice, through advocacy, education, and support for all, regardless of race, color, gender, ethnicity, and sexual orientation.

Our Vision

Hampton Roads Counselors Association strives to be a community-based organization that empowers mental health professionals by providing fellowship, advocacy, support, and continuing education opportunities.
